چکیده

Abstract Dielectric elastomer generators (DEGs) are soft electrostatic based on low-cost electroactive polymer materials. These devices have attracted the attention of marine energy community as a promising solution to implement economically viable wave converters (WECs). This paper introduces hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation framework for class WECs that combines concept oscillating water columns (OWCs) with DEGs. The proposed HIL system replicates in laboratory environment realistic operating conditions an OWC/DEG plant, while drastically reducing experimental burden compared tank or sea tests. simulator is driven by closed-loop real-time hydrodynamic model novel coupling criterion which allows rendering dynamic response diversity scenarios, including large scale DEG plants, whose dimensions and topologies largely different from those available setup. A case study also introduced, simulates application DEGs OWC plant installed mild real test-site. Comparisons sea-test data demonstrated ability setup effectively replicate scenario. insights gathered performance analysed systems pave way pursue further trials future.

Dynamic Model of Dielectric Elastomer Diaphragm Generators for Oscillating Water Column Wave Energy Converters

Dielectric Elastomers (DEs) are incompressible rubber-like solids whose electrical and structural responses are highly nonlinear and strongly coupled. Thanks to their coupled electromechanical response, intrinsic lightness, easy-manufacturability and low-cost, DEs are perfectly suited for the development of novel solid-state polymeric energy conversion units with capacitive nature and high-volt...

Optimizing the electrical energy conversion cycle of dielectric elastomer generators.

A strategy to control the electrical charge is developed to achieve high energy density of soft dielectric elastomer generators for energy harvesting. The strategy is analytically shown and experimentally demonstrated to produce the highest energy density ever reported for a soft generator.

Self-stabilizing Dielectric Elastomer Generators

Dielectric Elastomer Generators (DEGs) are an emerging technology for the conversion of mechanical into electrical energy. Despite many advantageous characteristics, there are still issues to overcome, including the need for charging at every cycle to produce an electrical output. Self-priming Circuits (SPCs) are one possible solution, storing part of the electric energy output of one cycle to ...

Dielectric elastomer generators that stack up

This paper reports the design, fabrication, and testing of a soft dielectric elastomer power generator with a volume of less than 1 cm. The generator is well suited to harvest energy from ambient and from human body motion as it can harvest from low frequency (sub-Hz) motions, and is compact and lightweight. Dielectric elastomers are highly stretchable variable capacitors. Electrical energy is ...
